S3 VIRGE
The S3 VIRGE was highly anticipated, and the hype was real. Computer magazines at the time reported of accelerated 3D graphics with improved performance and wide range of games supported.
In the same year, Microsoft worked on Direct3D for Windows 95, and it promised to make things easier for developers as well as gamers. S3 was an established force, with their S3 Trio 64 chips being very popular. However, S3 struggled to make the transition from 2D to 3D, but so did most other companies. Until the 3dfx Voodoo that is, which marked the demise for many graphics companies, not just S3. |
